Searching the web.

So my wife would tell you that I get obsessed with things and then I search the internet for hours on end looking for anything related to my current obsession. This is totally not true. I do spend some of my free time surfing through interesting websites looking for a good deal or cool pictures of trucks.

In my current search I have been looking for original paint colors for classic GMC trucks. I even came accross the original paint sheet from 1971. So this gives us a good start. I have to say I am leaning towards the turquoise blue but I also love anything with flames. The spec sheet in the glove box says it was originaly medium blue/white but is has been repainted. As long as we go with some sort of blue I can use many of the original interior peices.

Truck Update: I drove it to the store to get cake.

Here is the original paint chip sheet from 1971.

Here is the color I was talking about. (and the color Candi voted for)

Drooling on the tailgate.

So being the amazing artist that I am I am always looking for an interesting angle or an unusual way to frame that perfect shot. Tonight though the prize goes to Candi. After we went to dinner with my parents I took the truck to Lowes to pick up Candi's long over due birthday present (June 27th). When I got home Candi and Jack came out to see the swing that we got Candi for her birthday. It was a nice night so we all sat on the tailgate for a while. Jack was wearing his "Future Wildcat" shirt so I though I would take a picture. Before going inside I saw that Jack had drooled on the tailgate where he was sitting and Candi said "you should take a picture and put it on your blog." So I did.

Well the picture turned really cool so here it is. Who would have known a little drool and a rusted tailgate. Anyways I never really was into the whole blog thing because I didn't think I really had anything to say that other people would want to read. Now I am sure I don't have anything to write that other people would want to read.

Update on the truck: I don't think the passenger door had been opened in years. But after removing the door handle, arm rest, window crank, door panel and almost an entire can of WD40 it finally came open. I know this is not very exciting but at least now Candi and Jack can ride along side me in the old truck.

Jack's First Car

Ok, so I know he is only six months old but every father longs for that day when he can buy his son his first car. I just could not wait that long. So me and PaPa did it. We bought Jack a classic 1971 GMC C/K 1500 truck. This is a special truck to me and my dad because my first car was a 1967 Chevy C10 truck. The GMC is the same body style and even the same color (blue/white) that my '67 chevy was. It was just to good of a deal to pass up.

The nice part about the GMC is that almost all the engine work has been done. It has a chevy 327 ci small block, turbo 350 trans, quadrajet four barrel carb, headers, flowmaster dual exhaust and 18 inch crome wheels. The guy we bought it from even hooked us up with a polished Edelbrock intake, crome Edelbrock preformer 750 carb and Edelbrock crome valve covers. He is even going to get them installed for us at his speed shop. On top of all that in 1971 they added the auto transmision, power stearing, and front disk brakes. My '67 chevy was an inline six with three speed trans on the tree and no power stering or breaks. So needless to say this is a nice set up.

The challenging part of this project is going to be the body work. Lucky for us my dad's company has a shop near by where we can do most of the cutting and welding and the rest will be done in my garage. The truck has rust in most of the common areas that a 40 year old truck would. It will need new cab corners, rocker panels, rear fender wells and door bottoms. The bed also has some rust so we my cut it out and go with an old school wood bed. The good part is all of these panels can be bought from JC Whitney for about $15 a peice.

So here are some of the first pics. It dosen't look like much now but it is fast and loud. Check back and watch the progress.

It even has the original AM radio.

Check out the sweet original deluxe western door panels.

Here is a t-shirt design I did for my website of a very simalar truck. For those of you who do not know on top of being a stay at home dad I am also a partner in a screen printing company. We are doing some really cool things in the world of screen printing. Check out the site Capitol T-Shirt Design
